I was a bit befuddled when I unboxed and felt how free the pots turned. I was more worried about the electronics, being that old. Impressions: She was a bit dusty, but other than some light corner scuff marks, is pretty pristine. Took me maybe 1/2 hour to get it packed and back to the store, paid the whopping $22 difference in price, with the warranty (I paid $179 for the Mustang) and just got this in today. I called GC to see if they would straight across swap the Mustang for the Marshall and was told yes.

One late night, browsing GC's used online section, I stumbled onto this gem in a store, on the other coast. it sounds like a tiny amp, trying to be big at louder volumes.īeing so happy with the THR and so-so with the Fender, I decided I could go ahead and get something to mess around with. I had a Fender Mustang II v2.0, if I wanted something with a bit more volume. I had gone thru 11 - 12 modeling amps over the last 3 months.

Now, 30+ years later, after I discovered my love for guitar again, with a Les Paul. Sold it to a friend, as I was leaving CA. I wanted a Marshall, couldn't afford a "real one" and wasn't going to be embarrassed with a what I thought was a wannabe Marshall like a Microstack (like I said, I was ignorant about the history, specs, etc). Prior to the military, the amp I bought was a Peavey VSS 20. Shortly after I got out of the Navy, I gave away the Marshall for, I think $500 (maybe less). I was admittedly lost and ignorant, but also beyond frustrated. Didn't play well with any pedals I had, went thru at least 4 - 5 OD/distortion pedals, including a favorite OD-1 and never got it to sound like I wanted. I do know, I couldn't ever get the JCM-900 to sound like I wanted it to, unless everything was pinned at 10.

I knew the sound I liked, no idea how to pursue it. asked for a refund, walked into GC and walked out with a JCM-900 Dual Reverb head and a 4 x 12" Crate cab, loaded with Celestions. Musician's Friend was the big mail-order company at the time and I purchased a JCM-900 2x12 combo. I was going to come back with a wad of cash and wanted to buy my first Marshall. years of not playing, because I couldn't find the right guitar/amp/tone combination and frustration.ĭuring my years in the Navy, after our first deployment, which ended up being Desert Storm. Years of crappy amps, including a Marshall. What a very, very long and strange journey, its taken to come back to the Marshall club.
